In a manner similar to the recent Switch game Octopath Traveler, the game actually tells not one, but seven different stories from different points of history. If you’ve seen the trailer and you’re into JRPGs, this game should be right up your ally.

At the time critics really liked it, but it got overshadowed by some of the larger JRPGs at the time, including Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy V, and Dragon Quest V. Live-A-Live was a Super Nintendo game originally published by Square in 1994, before they had merged with Enix to become Square Enix. What is Live-A-Live, and why should you care? This isn’t particularly uncommon for games of that era, but now we’re living in the future, and more and more games are being localized. The thing is, it never actually got localized outside of Japan. But I did some digging and it turns out that yup, this was a pretty big sleeper hit for the Super Nintendo. I’ve been playing games for a long, long time and I was surprised to hear this referred to as a “classic” since I hadn’t heard of it before. Or rather, they showed a trailer for a 2D remake of the game. Whether they're remakes or original.If you were watching the Nintendo Direct for February 2022, you may have been caught off-guard by a title called “LIVE A LIVE HD-2D remake” that Nintendo showed a trailer for. Which was why I was somewhat disappointed that there weren't really any interactions between them all in the final chapter, though for a SNES game that was originally released in 1994 I suppose that's understandable.I hope with Live A Live, and Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy previously, we get more games in the 2.5 HD style.

Although all of the character scenarios play on classic tropes and clichés (Cube's scenario especially will give you strong ALIEN and 2001: A Space Odyssey vibes) it is all done very well and I enjoyed spending time with every protagonist. Could've used more character interactions and story moments.FINAL SCORE:8/10, Live A Live is a fun, classic JRPG that reminds me positively of Chrono Trigger and the older Final Fantasy games. PROS:-A fantastic musical score by Yoko Shimomura-Beautiful 2.5 HD world.-Seven Sizzling Short Stories with good themes and variationsPROS:-A fantastic musical score by Yoko Shimomura-Beautiful 2.5 HD world.-Seven Sizzling Short Stories with good themes and variations in gameplay-A classic SNES Remake done (mostly) right.CONS:-Some changes in the English localisation that feel more like censorship.-English voice acting is kind of bland.-Final chapter is somewhat "meh", mostly dealing with final boss and bonus dungeons.
